The Internet is the largest source of free and paid information ever created. Being able to navigate that safely and effectively takes a level of skill and patience. The Internet safety portion of this class will teach you some of the tools that can help you effectively navigate this virtual world.
Some of the topics we will discuss are:
Types of Internet sites
The meaning of all of those web address endings
How the Internet began and what it is evolving into
Social networking sites, the good and the bad
Computer viruses and email
Internet safety as it relates to social sites and websites

Google Apps is a suite of products designed to link all that Google has to offer to a persons' G mail account. They are able to access everything that they due via the Internet on almost any connected device. This will be the backbone of our class and what helps us to maintain a collaborative learning environment as well as a paperless classroom.
Google Sites is an extension of all of the great tools that GMail has to offer. Once you have created your student email account you will be able to access all of these great tools. Google Sites allows you to create websites that you can add your own content using their templates or by creating your own.
Students will be creating sites based on topics of your choice using some of the following tools:
Template designs to enhance appearances
Inserting pictures and hyperlinks
Reference sites, linking your information to others
Creating new pages, embedding Google Drive projects
Google Sites will become the students electronic portfolio for the entire class. All of the assignments that students work on in class will be kept her for easy access and organization of all of their projects.
Students will be creating sites based on topics of your choice using some of the following tools:

West Point Bridge Designer
Students will design and build a bridge using the West Point Bridge Software. Through this, students will have an opportunity to:
Learn about engineering through a realistic, hands-on problem-solving experience.
Learn about the engineering design process, application of math, science, and technology to create devices and systems that meet human needs.
Learn about truss bridges and how they work.
Learn how engineers use the computer as a problem-solving tool.
We also hope you will have some fun pitting your problem-solving skills.
